National Reading Barometer SA

The Nal’ibali Trust, the National Library of South Africa, and the project steering committee are pleased to invite you to the launch of the very first National Reading Barometer.

Digital technology is reshaping reading trends in South Africa. Want to know how?
South Africans read for pleasure, information and communication. Want to know what?
Adult reading affects children’s reading. Want to know why?
Please join us for the launch of the inaugural National Reading Barometer.
At the event, we’ll present the findings of the 2022 National Reading Survey,
a nationally-representative study of 4,250 South African adults that examined attitudes towards reading, reading practices, and access to reading material.
We’ll also launch the National Reading Barometer, a new index that draws
on secondary data and the survey to assess the health of the national reading ecosystem.
Join us as we explore how the findings can help us strengthen and grow reading cultures
and build a more enabling ecosystem to support them.

We hope to see you there!
